A Perspective On Determinate SentencingCalifornia State University, Hayward

California State University, Sacramento This paper reports on criminal histories of a group of persons with serious offending patterns. In these cases, offense seriousness remains stableand intermediatethroughout eleven convictions. We conclude that "determinate sentencing" does not increase term lengths; only late in these careers do longer prison sentences become more likely than under the indeterminate system.
